These photographs were taken Santa Anita Park and Hollywood Park, in the spring of 2010. Both tracks showcase the cultural and socioeconomic diversity of the Los Angeles area in ways that few other locations do.

The oldest racetrack in Southern California, Santa Anita opened in 1934 and is located in Arcadia, at the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains. It is still a popular destination for Angelenos.

Actually located in Inglewood, Hollywood Park opened in 1938, and was born out of the film industry's desire to have its own thoroughbred racetrack. Demolition on the park began in 2014 and was concluded in 2016. In the years before its demise, the park also hosted concerts for Southern California bands like Devo and X.
